Free Fitness Classes

Want to keep fit, but our team sports are not your cup of tea?  

Not to worry, we have it covered. The Students' Union are proud to offer FREE Fitness Class programme with three different activities to suit everyone!

What is Zumba?

By combining aerobic cardiovascular exercise with upbeat Latin music tempos, Zumba® offers a total body work out by combining the moves used in different Latin dances such as samba, mambo and salsa, as well as belly-dancing, hip-hop and martial arts.
Together, these various Zumba® fitness elements provide exciting, rhythmical exercise routines that are great fun. It’s like a disco in a gym and with more than 1 million people in now enrolled in classes, Zumba® is one of the most popular physical activities for women in Britain today.

Why is it good for me?

Combining fast and slow exercises, Zumba® means your body never settles into the consistent rhythms used by other types of exercise. Repetitive exercise means that fitness and weight loss reach a plateau, whereas Zumba® dancing keeps your body confused, so that plateau isn’t reached. Some of the key benefits include:

  • Cardiovascular and aerobic workout
  • Improved coordination
  • Improved mental agility
  • Help with weight loss
  • Social benefits of meeting new people

What is Self Defence?

Self Defence classes are designed to help you learn to protect yourself in a safe way. The classes will run for five weeks with a qualified trainer who will teach you how to overcome situations. The classes are physically demanding offering you a good all body work out as well as discovering knowledge that may help you in the future. The classes are a fun and interactive way of learning and getting a good work out in a casual atmostphere. 

Why is it good for me? 

The classes provide an all body work out with emphasis on arms and legs. Although the course may not be as intense as other fittness courses we offer, it is a good way to improve your endurance along with expanding your ability to protect yourself in a proper manner.

What is Bootcamp?

Bootcamp is an hour long session which provides a full body intense work out. You will be on the Pavilion Field with a qualified instructor who will be providing excerise activities from press ups, rope pulling, tyre dragging, sit ups and running. Not for the faint hearted but a great one to come down to with your friends and try something new. 

Why is it good for me?

This type of excerise is high intensity and provides a full body work out. You may feel a little tired afterwards but the effects on your body are fantastic. You will be working each muscel in your body with emphasis on abs, legs and arms. Over the 10 week period you will find your endurance improves and you will start to feel yourself getting stronger and healthier.
