Why Join a Sports Club?

There are a number of reasons for why over 1600 students every year participate in sport at the University of Northampton.

1. Its fun and a great way to meet new people!

With 37 Sports Clubs to choose from in addition to our intramural offering, there's something for everyone - for all ages, for all abilities and levels of experience. You can try something new like lacrosse, which 90% of our members have never played before attending University, or something different such as archery or wheelchair basketball! With so many people getting involved in sport its also a great way to meet new people and make some new friends outside of your course, infact over 70% of our members joined a Sport last year to meet new people!

2. Its an enjoyable and easy way to keep active!

Between our Stallions Sports Clubs and intramural offering, regardless of how much free time you have we have a multitude of sporting opportuities for you to get involved in - time commitment need never be an issue. And with a number of social training sessions and individual sports, such as tennis, badminton or table tennis that you can get involved in you can dip in and out when you can! With all matches and training sessions held at Park Campus, the adjacent Benham Sports Arena or with free transport from the University, it couldn't be easier to get involved.

3. Employers are looking for sports club members!

According to Deloitte, 94% of graduate employers agree that students involved in sport demonstrate good employability skills. By joining a sport you'll develop your communications skills, your teamworking skills and leadership skills. If you take up a position on the Committee of one of our Sports Clubs, you'll further develop organisational skills, negotiation and problem solving skills. But don't listen to us - what do Deloitte and British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) have to say?

4. Did we mention that sport at the University of Northampton Students' Union is free?

Never again will you have access to such a diverse and quality sport offer, free of charge. The Students' Union invests almost £300,000 every year to ensure we can deliver our Sports Clubs at no cost to our members, because we believe that sport helps you stay healthy, provides a beneficial break from your studies, provides you an opportunity to meet new people and make new friends and the chance to get away from the books and have some fun! Compared to other institutions in the region, over a three year period you could have stood to save almost £1000! So take advantage of the opportunity, whilst you can!
