Whilst working at the University of Northampton Students' Union we want to ensure that as a staff member you have a positive work experience. One in which you are comfortable, yet challenged, and in which you feel empowered to achieve the best for our members.

Responsibility for your support whilst working at the Students' Union is split between your Line Manager, Senior Manager and the Students' Union's HR Manager. 

Below you'll find a summary of how your managers support you, what they are responsible for and who you should approach for common enquiries:

 

Line Manager

  • Lead on Probationary period reviews with direct reports
  • Monthly 1:1 with direct reports
  • Handle staff issues/conflicts that are outwith HR policy/procedure contravention
  • Maintain accurate training records
  • Be accountable for annual leave requests/business cover

 

HR Manager

  • Recruitment processes
  • Facilitating interview & selection
  • Communicating job offers
  • Staff Inductions
  • Return to Work Interviews
  • Exit Interviews
  • Lead & guide on procedural contraventions
  • Maintain HR records for all staff
  • Ensure legal compliance
  • Chair Development Committee
  • Manage training budget and allocate spend as appropriate
  • Ensure SU HR processes are regularly updated by liaising with University HR Business partner
  • Annual review of HR policies

 

CEO & the HR Committee

  • Approve Role Descriptions/Salary
  • Approve budget spend above £200 for training requests
  • Budget approval for recruitment purposes

 

As a member of staff there are also expectations of yourself with regards to HR. You are expected to:

  • Attend training as requested
  • Provide feedback on training that has been authorised through the budget process
  • Abide by your contractual obligations and by all Students' Union policies and procedures
