You’ve probably already heard that many bars and restaurants are joining the global movement to eliminate plastic drinking straws from our landfills, streams, oceans and beaches. NUS has launched #TheLastStraw – a campaign to stop the use of single-use plastic straws in our students’ unions and beyond. Now this campaign has spread to focus on eliminating all forms of single use plastics. Jemma Vobe your Ethics and Environment Officer will be holding a stall in the Park Library Foyer promoting the ‘Last Straw Campaign.’
“Come speak to me your Ethics and Environment Officer, about Plastic pollution, how this affects the ocean, and what we as students can do about it.”
Here at Northampton we offer a broad range of societies! From course-based groups, to those based around cultural, religious, political or ethical sensibilities. Many of our societies are based on common interests, such as the popular Salsa Society, or the Pole Fitness Society. Societies regularly run a number of social events, meetings and trips throughout the year – whether it’s a trip to Belgium, down to London to see a show, or a night at the Students’ Union – there’s something for everyone. Joining a society is also an exciting opportunity to learn something new, like airsoft or meditation; visit somewhere you’ve never been before, or further develop a passion or skill you already have! Volunteering as part of a society committee is also a great way to gain practical experience in organising events, budgeting, marketing and many other areas. SocieTea is a space for society members to meet and chat, enjoy hot drinks, ask questions and discuss current issues. The Societies Development Coordinator will be present, as well as Dave, the VP Union Development or Tasha, the Societies PTO.
