My name is Esther, a current third year Law student and your BME officer.

I decided to run for BME officer as I’m passionate about making a change in the BME community. I want to create a BME community where progression and achievement are the main aims. I want to ensure that BME students are aware of the various opportunities provided to them outside their academic studies and I want to make sure that BME students are adequately represented at student council and executive meetings. I want to give BME students the voice I never thought I had during my educational journey.

During my year in office I plan to ensure that Black History Month is a success. I also plan to launch a BME working group which will work to ensure that concerns of BME students are communicated. I hope to begin a movement to reduce the BME attainment gap by considering the root cause of the attainment gap. My main aim is to ensure that BME students know that they have a voice within the Students’ Union as well as the University.
