What We Do

The Student Union is an active supporter of many ethical and environmental initiatives beyond the activity we directly organise. These include the NUS led campaign Snap It Off which encourages our students to identify lights and equipment left on campus unnecessarily by snapping a photo of the offending light/device. It also includes the inter-hall energy saving competition Student Switch Off

The Students' Union stocks and sells a variety of Faitrade certified products across its outlets including:

  • All branded clothing available from UniExpress and through the Students' Union website
  • Starbucks Fairtrade coffee from both Pavilion and Avenue Students' Union
  • Fairtrade wines available from UniExpress and Avenue convenience shop

The Students' Union supports an on-campus Allotment. The Food for Thought Allotment on Park Campus was established as a student business and volunteer project as part of the NUS Student Green Fund Project, Planet Too. Located at the far end of Pavilion Pitch, the allotment grows a variety of fruit and vegetables, which have been sold through the Students' Union's catering outlets, retail stores and at a number of BBQs

The Allotment has also been used as an education tool, inviting local school children on campus to learn more about healthy eating, gardening and biodiversity. If you've got a green thumb and want to get involved email Kerri Wheeler to find out more.
